Strengthening Infrastructure Resilience to Extreme Events - From North America to Developing Nations -

ARX Institute®

The American Institute for Resilient Infrastructure and Extreme Events (ARX Institute)® is a future-oriented nonprofit think tank initiative currently under development, envisioned to advance infrastructure resilience under extreme natural events.

The initiative is being structured to promote the development of science-based strategies, risk-informed design approaches, and innovative technologies to assess, strengthen, and adapt critical infrastructure systems exposed to climate-driven and geohazard-related risks.

Projected to operate with a strategic base in the Washington, D.C. region, ARX Institute is intended to foster future collaboration among federal agencies, private industry, and academic institutions, with a mission spanning North America and selected developing regions.

The long-term vision of ARX Institute is dual-purpose:
• To contribute to applied research and technological innovation in the United States.
• To support vulnerable communities abroad through future knowledge transfer, disaster risk education, and technical cooperation frameworks.

Its planned thematic focus includes the resilience of transportation and civil infrastructure systems, such as airports, railways, ports, pipelines, buildings, and other essential assets, emphasizing vulnerability assessment, performance under extreme events, and long-term adaptation strategies.
